I have personally found mild see-through and v-neck are perfect for the beach and pool. It depends on what you are comfortable with and what looks good on your body.

Lane Bryant has some classic styles for the coverups. Most of these are suitable for the pool and the beach, not much sensual designs but more of casual cover-ups.

I have found Macy's and Zappos with some good designs. However the macy's have some expensive coverups and not much color variety. However the designs from both macy's and zappos are good to check out.

One piece are much comfortable beachwear during summer and other pool use. For plus size, there are many one piece varieties out there. Some of the varieties include - solid bikini, floral shoulder straps, v neck swimsuit and many more.
